Imipenem is a ß lactam antibiotic derived from thienamycin. It has a wide spectrum with good activity against many gram negative, gram positive organism and anaerobes. Imipenem is given in combination with cilastatin. Antibiotics require constant drug level in body for therapeutic effect.
